General educational information, not legal or financial advice. We cannot accept your fraud report, contact your bank for you, or promise recovery.
Steps to take
- For a bank wire, immediately contact your bank or the wire transfer company through its verified support channel. Explain the suspected scam and ask whether a recall or reversal is possible.
- For a gift card, immediately contact the issuer using the number on the card or its official website. Provide the card number only through that official channel, report the scam, and ask about a refund.
- Keep receipts, card or transfer details, and messages. Report the incident to the FTC and, if internet crime is involved, consider an IC3 report.
- Be cautious of anyone promising guaranteed recovery or asking for an advance fee. Recovery is uncertain and time matters.
Information to prepare
- Transfer confirmation or gift card receipt
- Dates, amounts and verified merchant or issuer contact details
- Screenshots or messages from the scammer
